“ This is Captain Riley Witacre. Of the SunShredder - that is, um, freighter ship SS8Y73B - broadcasting from an escape pod radio registered to my vehicle. Again. It has been 23 days since my ship was horribly damaged by planetary debris from FY4-201 - y’know, that godforsaken lump of death in the middle of some of the most hellish space I’ve had the misery of flying through? - and. Well. It’s not looking good out here.

I’ve had my SOS signal going this whole time. No responses. No incoming signals. Hah. Wonder if anyone can even hear this. Well. If you can… Supplies are running low. Very little food and water left. Maybe another couple of weeks if I only have a meal every other day. And I think the air recycling and power generator got hit at some point. Power’s running low, and it’s getting harder to breathe. Should be fine for a few days though.

… But nobody’s gonna get here before then. I know that. Hoped my send-off would at least be something more exciting than suffocating in an escape pod. Alone.

If anyone does hear this, there are two others stranded on the planet. Researchers James Ripley and Philip Selby. I don’t know if it’s too late for them, it probably is by now. But. Please look for them. They at least deserve a proper burial.

And if by some chance you two are hearing this… I’m so sorry. This is all my fault. I… [ WITACRE SOBS FOR SEVERAL MINUTES ] I should never have brought you here. Never should have accepted that stupid job. You guys deserved better than all of this. Try and get Shredder fixed up for me, will you? A little bit of me to keep with you if I don’t get out of this one. She’s a good ship. Plenty of people would be willing to pilot for you. Love you guys. So much. You’ve been wonderful friends, and…

[ AUDIO CORRUPTION: SEGMENT INAUDIBLE ]

… As much as I’d love to keep talking into the void, I need the power left for the air generator and my SOS signal.

This is Riley Witacre, going dark. For the last time. “

INVESTIGATION NOTES: Witacre had been broadcasting the mentioned SOS signal, as well as daily updates, for 22 days before this final broadcast. The mentioned researchers, Doctors J. Ripley and P. Selby, were considered missing persons for 6 years until their mention in her distress calls. It is likely that they are deceased after several weeks on FY4-201. Retrieval of any bodies or crash debris that may be left is unlikely.
The SOS signal being broadcasted by Witacre's escape pod went dark at 96 hours, 53 minutes, and 12 seconds after the final broadcast due to power failure. Oxygen cycling processes are assumed to have failed with the power.

RULING: Retrieval too dangerous.
